Call it the Emmys of the utility world — or at least the MTV Awards.
Each year, the Utility Communicators International conducts an award contest among utilities to recognize great communication in TV and radio ads, billboards, websites and employee engagement
And this year Gulf Power’s work was recognized among the best, taking home seven awards for outstanding achievement.
They didn’t allow acceptance speeches to be made, but if she could have Corporate Communications Director Becca Boles would have thanked all the members of the Gulf Power Communications, Marketing and Community and Economic Development teams for their great contributions and impressive work until the music began to play and she was finally escorted off the stage.
“This was a first for me to see the impressive work that is being done in the utility industry surrounding message communication,” Boles said. “We can all be very proud of the work of our Gulf Power teammates in Corporate Communications, Communication Services, Marketing and the Community and Economic Development team for their award-winning work. It’s a great example of superior performance through SouthernStyle.”
Who are the stars of UCI? Gulf Power and more than 100 electricity, gas, water and alternative source utilities in the U.S., Canada and Bermuda are eligible to participate.
“Collaboration, creativity, dedication and teamwork help our team develop successful messaging and delivery to our target audiences,” Boles said. “Results will always be the true standard of success, but it is always nice to be recognized among your peers.”

Digital Properties – Gulf Power Responsive Website – 1st Place (The website was redesigned in responsive design, which makes it mobile-friendly and accessible from a desktop computer, tablet or smartphone.)
Safety Communications – Safety Elevator Wrap – 1st Place (The design created a mirror reflection so that employees see themselves as the most important person in safety.)
Television Ad – Just Like That – 2nd Place (The ad was designed to engage customers in our value and reliability, featuring the many ways electricity is a factor in their lives.)
Radio Commercial – Heat Pump (Coach) – 2nd Place (Gulf Power’s Energy Coach “pumped up” the promotion of heat pumps.)
Special Publications – Environmental Stewardship Brochure – 2nd Place (The 36-page brochure highlighted Gulf Power’s stewardship efforts, ranging from environmental work at the plants to work in the ecosystems helping the various forms of wildlife in Northwest Florida.)
Print Advertising, Image or Branding – Economic Development, Open for Business – 3rd Place (The newspaper ad touted Gulf Power’s involvement in area economic development and the company’s role in expanding the region.)
Employee Communications and Internal Campaigns – Our Communities Update email – 3rd Place (The weekly employee email was designed as the one-stop shop for community involvement, featuring all the projects going on across the company.)
