Terry Brackney, the owner of The Cottage Boutique & Formal Wear, saved money and energy by taking advantage of Gulf Power’s energy efficiency rebates.

Terry Brackney is enjoying savings on his power bill at his new boutique’s location, thanks to the energy efficient measures he had installed during renovations.

When he relocated his store from 196 Main Street in Crestview to a 93-year-building at 648 Wilson Street N., he was faced with gutting the 4,233-square-foot building to transform it into a beautiful retail space.

As he laid out his renovation plans, Terry contacted Scott Bender, Gulf Power’s Commercial Marketing Representative for the Crestview area, to ask about energy efficiency rebates available for his project. Scott was able to make some cost-effective recommendations to upgrade the 1925-era building and confirmed the availability of rebates to offset the costs.

“After talking and meeting with Scott, we made the decision to install Icynene spray foam ceiling insulation as well as low-E glass windows and LED lighting,” said Terry. “Our historic building is now energy efficient, which will help reduce our operating costs.”

Terry is now enjoying his space in comfort and with big savings on heating and cooling costs. He also qualified for a Business Ceiling Insulation Incentive of $643.95.

Terry reached out to Scott again to do a free energy checkup on his original Cottage Boutique property in downtown Crestview. Scott performed an energy analysis and based on the findings, recommended implementing some of the same energy conservation measures — ceiling spray foam insulation, Low-E windows and LED lighting. Scott also suggested upgrading the existing gas water heater and 4-ton furnace to an electric water heater and a 3-ton heat pump. Terry will likely receive more incentives from Gulf Power and will save money because of increased building and equipment efficiency. Terry is moving forward with this project with plans to lease the building, which is expected to become a Real Estate office when renovations are completed in a few months.

Energy efficiency consultation is one of Gulf Power’s many programs to help business customers, commercial property managers, developers, building owners, contractors, architects and engineers identify and implement recommended energy conservation measures and energy efficient technologies.
